Clock Inn Colombo

The location and price were probably the only decent parts, though I’m sure there are better options. I booked a mixed dorm, and the bed hadn’t been made when I checked in, so I had to ask someone to do it. I requested a lower bunk, but the woman at the counter said none were available, even though one in my dorm stayed empty all night. There was seepage on the ceiling above me, the beds creaked all night, and the washroom area smelled really bad. I don’t think I’d recommend this place to anyone.

The people here made a big difference. Staff were kind, welcoming and ready to help, and the place had the feel of a friendly little community of travelers. My room was cozy, comfortable and clean, the shared areas stayed spotless, and breakfast each morning was simple, fresh and tasty. The Galle Road location is hard to beat, close to cafes, shops and the beach. Great value for money, and one of my best stays in Colombo. Clock Inn Colombo exceeded my expectations, and I’ll definitely return. 💛

Flies everywhere. I walked in and ran into a cloud of them on the first floor, with more up the stairs. The bunks had no curtains, and people kept the lights on past 10PM, like at many hostels. There was no code lock on the dorm room. The AC was blasting, and I couldn’t turn it off or down. Showers seemed reasonably spacious, but the bathrooms were messy. The hallway smelled of rotting food, coming from a maintenance closet where someone had hidden a few small, dirty dishes. The dorm room, bunk and linen were clean, though, and staff responded quickly and were professional and courteous. The free breakfast was better than nothing, and the eating area was cozy and nice, but flies were all over the fruit and tables, and inside the bread containers. I checked out early. There’s no elevator, and the staircases are big. It was cleaner than other hostels at the same price, but had much less privacy and all those flies.

The room was much smaller than the spacious rooms shown on Booking.com, and there was no view like the pictures suggested. Parking turned out to be along the roadside. When we asked for basic things to eat with, they had no spoon, fork, or plate to give us. Breakfast was just cornflakes, bread, and butter, even though we had paid for it. I wouldn't recommend the location. It might work for a last-minute night out when you only need somewhere to sleep.
