Orion City Hotel

I came to colombo for a justice ministry program on 22nd day november 2025. Earl’s red hotel management was very bad. The 12000/- rupees charge wasn’t the problem, but they gave me no door key. If I went into the room, I couldn’t get out, so I left the door open with one block while I went to iron my dress. My family and belongings were inside with no security. I’d asked at check-in for an iron and ironing board. They told me where to find them, but the next morning the iron wasn’t there. They spent one and a half hours looking for one and lied about it being in that place. I lost 1 1/2 hours and ended up wearing my official dress without ironing it. I got late to my program.

The low price and location are what keep this at three stars. It’s easy to reach places around colombo, with access right from the main road, and prices are comparatively cheaper. But management seemed poor, and the place looked like it might be under construction. Noise went on all night and made it hard to sleep. By morning, half the floor was flooded. Parking in the basement is limited, and the room amenities were showing their age. There was no hot water, the AC remote was broken, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable.

After a 4-5 hour flight from Dubai to Sri Lanka, this was a miserable one-night stay at Earl’s Red Hotel about 10 days ago. We couldn’t sleep at all, and I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone. When we arrived, there was no receptionist at the desk, and our room hadn’t been cleaned. The reception area had no air conditioning either. We’d booked a large suite with separate sitting and dining areas, but its AC was far too small for the room. We left it running for over 8 hours and it never cooled down. There was also an unpleasant smell when we first walked in. We raised several complaints and nobody came to deal with them. After 11 p.m. the receptionist said maintenance wasn’t available, then an hour later the receptionist was nowhere to be found. This place doesn’t deserve even one star.

Clean place and good value for money. The restaurant and front office staff were good.
