Lunuvila Resort Dickwella

The owner was such a sweetheart. He helped us with laundry, scooter rental, and local recommendations. Our room was cute and had everything we needed, and the location was handy, about five minutes from the best restaurants and ten from the beach. Great value for money, 10/10.

We felt unsafe and disrespected here, and left immediately because we couldn’t sleep. The host came across as friendly at first, but soon became rude and dismissive. Most alarming, he entered our room while we were away, with all our valuables inside. We noticed the AC switched off after we left on the first day, then again the next day. On the third day we tested it deliberately, and it was off when we returned again. That made it clear to us that someone had been in the room without permission. There was rotten, moldy food left in the fridge from a previous guest, and it smelled awful. When we asked for a third towel, we were told we’d have to pay extra. The host also kept a significant amount of our change without asking, assuming it was a tip. That was completely inappropriate. We do not trust this place. Guests’ rooms should never be entered without their consent. Don’t stay here.

The beach is about a 15-minute walk away, with shops and other nice spots along the way. Although the property sits in a quiet alley and feels secluded, it’s easy to get to everything in Hiriketiya. It’s a simple, comfortable place for people who value being close to nature over luxury. We loved having a private table and seating area right outside our room for breakfast. The Sri Lankan food was fresh, full of flavor, and generous, easily the best breakfast of our trip. The host was kind, generous, and friendly from check-in, always ready to help with questions and make us feel at home. He was also happy to chat and share local stories and tips. Our room opened onto a lush garden with huge tropical leaves, almost like a private jungle. The two charming houses are tucked away in a small lane, and the garden made the whole place feel peaceful and restorative. We had a memorable stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, distinctive place with thoughtful hospitality.

The owner was so kind and helpful, and you can see how much care he put into the two cabins and the little paradise garden. It’s a lovely hideaway away from the touristy beach area. The beds were comfortable, and we had a small kitchen, fridge, mosquito net, fan, and even hot water. Thanks for such a wonderful place.
