Levon Ella Sri Lanka

The train-side setting is a real treat for train lovers, with a unique view of the tracks and passing trains. The hills around Ella are scenic, and the property is beautiful. Rooms were neat, clean and well maintained, the staff courteous and friendly, and the simple, tasty Sri Lankan food was freshly made and gave us a homely feel. Getting there is difficult. Complimentary transport to and from Ella main street would make things much more convenient. Tuk-tuks arranged by the staff charged very high prices, so given how remote it is, staff help with buying or keeping small essentials would also be useful, with tips of course. Early mornings can be noisy from frequent trains and the platform and tuk tuk stand, which might not suit light sleepers. It felt more like a homestay or B&B than a traditional hotel, so that should be clearer when booking to set expectations. The owner lives in the US, and communication could be challenging at times; a phone number the local staff can reach would help. Hotel Levon Ella is charming, with stunning train-side views and a local feel, but better access and clearer information about the setup would make the stay smoother.

The staff were so kind and helpful that they made our stay feel like five stars. It’s a lovely, quiet place just beyond Ella’s centre. Walking there is quite a trek, but renting a tuktuk worked well for us. We’d recommend it, 5/5.

The balcony view was incredible, and sitting there brought such a sense of calm. Our room was spacious, clean, and tidy, and the staff were genuinely friendly and good at their jobs. A really lovely place, highly recommended.

We’ll remember the two young hosts most of all. They made us smile throughout our stay and were truly special people. Breakfast was among the best we’ve ever had, and the cozy rooms were spotless and had every comfort. A little piece of paradise in Ella, surrounded by nature.
