Oak Ray Ella Gap Hotel

My friend and I spent one night at the Oak Ray Ella gap hotel. It felt safe and was close to shops and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful, and offered us welcome drinks. The only downside was the many stray dogs around, barking at night. We ordered dinner from the menu, since it wasn’t buffet style, while breakfast was a buffet. We enjoyed our stay in this lovely, friendly hotel. When we checked out, they gave me a box of tea bags as a gift. My friend didn’t want it. Just a small note to thank the staff for looking after us.

The staff made our stay pleasant, and the family room was roomy and comfortable. We were also just a short distance from Ella Town, which was exactly what we wanted. The buffet was acceptable, though the selection wasn't especially impressive, and the food itself was fine. Our room didn't have a good view, which was a letdown in Ella. A convenient place for town access, as long as you don't count on scenery from every room.

Dinner and breakfast were average, and one evening the set dinner arrived cold. The staff were courteous, and the room was clean and well kept, but our family room was on the fourth floor with no lift, which made things uncomfortable. They offered to move us on the last day, but the alternative was only one floor lower, so we stayed put. The access and food issues affected our stay despite the good service and cleanliness.

The personal attention from the staff made our holiday feel especially welcoming. Thanks in particular to Jeewaka, Satheesha, Isuru, Hasindu and Ujith! We were traveling around Sri Lanka with my parents, and the hotel was well placed for exploring Ella and nearby sights. Our room was tidy, spacious and comfortable, with a large, comfortable bed.
