The Kandyan Villa

The views from the rooms were stunning, with Kandyan Villa perched up on a hill. The owners’ kindness and generosity made the place feel like a friend’s home, not a commercial hotel. My room was minimalist but comfortable, and the relaxed atmosphere was ideal for unwinding. The food was freshly prepared in their kitchen and felt personal, like sharing a meal with family. They also grow the delicious fruit in their own garden, and I appreciated their care for sustainability. I highly recommend this unique, homely place in Kandy.

Reception called my room at 23.20 and again at 23.30 to ask if I was there, waking me up and ruining my sleep. The manager didn’t care. They say breakfast is served from 08.00, but when I showed up then, it still wasn’t ready and they kept me waiting. I’m still waiting. Booking.com lists breakfast as 0630-0930. It also says there’s a restaurant, but when I called the restaurant number from the room phone, I was told it wasn’t available. The toilet and shower were crawling with ants. I’ll add more later. That was only my first night.

We arrived at 4:30am, and the staff helped us with our briefcases. The receptionist also suggested great tuk-tuk tour guides, which made our stay more insightful. The hotel was willing to help with all our requests, and the breakfast was generous. A great stay.

Be careful with this "The Kandy villa". The villa itself is okay, but drunken three-wheel drivers often come there. Yesterday (2026.05.25), we had a very bad argument with one, and they used abusive language towards us. The incident completely disturbed our peace of mind. If you’re traveling with family, you may feel very uncomfortable.
