Rawana Holiday Resort

The location is decent and the staff seem friendly, but this place felt full of scammers. We waited two hours for five restaurant meals, then spent another 30 minutes disputing random charges added to the bill. At checkout they claimed we still owed 2500 rupees from the previous night, even though we'd already overpaid. There was no toilet paper, and the toilets wouldn't flush. Don't go to this hotel.

We came back to Ella, we'd eat here again. We stopped in at 3pm to ask for the set dinner for two that evening, and when we returned at 7, our places were already set. The food arrived soon after we sat down. Seven different curries, all with amazing flavors, and the best meal we've had in all of Sri Lanka.

The photos are so misleading. This was the worst room I've had during my 2.5 weeks in Sri Lanka. The people in the neighboring rooms were really disappointed too when we met and talked about it.

Dinner and breakfast were genuinely Sri Lankan, tasted good, and were well priced. The central spot also made it easy to walk to Ella's main street and nearby activities. We stayed one night as a couple in October 2015. The room was an okay size, though the furniture was dated. The shower never got hot enough, the towels smelled unpleasant, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable, so we had to go somewhere else to get online. The cook and waiters didn't speak English, and the owner spoke only a little.
