Rock View Hostel Ella

The hostel was decent and had a great view. I especially liked watching the big mountain right in front of it in the mornings. After I left, Sadaru messaged me to say I'd forgotten my Kindle on the bed and helped arrange to get it back. I really appreciate that honest, kind service.

The common space and terrace were great for hanging out and relaxing. You could connect to the speakers and play music, or get into a board game. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the breakfast in the morning was really good too. Sandaru was the kindest, super accommodating and helpful host. Amazing stay, would recommend this hostel!

From the patio you get a stunning view of Ella Rock, and there's even a small gym area out there. I felt completely safe in the female dorm as a solo female traveler. The hostel was spacious, clean, and welcoming, and the staff were attentive, around whenever I needed help. It's just a few minutes' walk to the bus station, about 13 minutes to the train station, and close to shops and restaurants. Even with everything so central, the place still felt peaceful and calm. A great mix of comfort, convenience, and beautiful surroundings.

The view and central location were the best parts for me, with everything in town close by. I booked a mixed four-bed dorm. It wasn't bad, but comfort didn't really live up to what I'd hoped. The bathroom was clean. The manager was generally nice, though I was charged 300 LKR for a bottle of water that cost 100 LKR outside. I only noticed later and didn't say anything, but it felt a bit off. At night, people sometimes gathered outside, and their voices carried into the rooms, making it hard to sleep. I think a quiet hours policy after maybe 11 PM would help. It was okay otherwise, but this wasn't my top pick compared with the other hostels I stayed at. The location and view were definitely the highlights.
