Vista Hotel Sun Breeze

The rooms were in bad shape: two of the three bathrooms we booked weren’t working, wastewater was leaking everywhere, the toilet flush didn’t work, and the bathroom door lock was broken. There was mismanagement throughout, and the staff were rude and hostile when dealing with us. Their service ruined what could have been a good location. This was the worst experience of my month-long trip to Sri Lanka. Not recommended at all.

We had a beer on our balcony, looking out at the mountains, and the view from some rooms and the dining area must be the best in Ella. The rooms were clean, and we liked being away from the tourist Main Street. Since the place is high on the hill, there were no mosquitoes. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and couldn’t stop making pancakes for our hungry boys. We also did a cooking class with them and really enjoyed it. We had a great time here!

We booked Sun Breez Hotel ahead for the night of the 15th, hoping for a comfortable stay, but left deeply disappointed. The first thing we found was that the toilets hadn’t been flushed, which made us question the hygiene throughout the place. The pillowcases were visibly dirty, with patches and stains, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned before being given to us. It was disgusting and made it impossible to relax or get a good night’s sleep. The room fell far short of the cleanliness and comfort you’d expect from a hotel. With hygiene this poor, from the toilets to the linens, this was one of my worst hotel experiences. I’d never recommend staying here. Look elsewhere.

Breakfast comes with the room and it’s delicious. Eating outside on the front lawn while the morning sun hits Ella Rock is hard to beat. Each room has a private deck with amazing views, and it’s arguably the best view in town. The rooms are clean and have useful amenities like a fridge and electric kettle. Ella center is a five-minute walk away. I visit Ella at least once a year and can’t imagine staying anywhere else.
