42 Lighthouse Street

Breakfast was lovely at either 42 or Fort Bazaar, just around the corner. They also offer a free guided walk around the city, though 7.00 am was a bit too early for us. With the sights and restaurants right nearby, the location in the centre of Galle Fort is handy. It’s a small hotel, only four rooms, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff were really helpful. I’d definitely recommend it.

We moved here from sister property Fort Bazaar to save a bit, and after just one night we wished we’d stayed at 42 Lighthouse Street for two nights, maybe all four. It’s a calm, elegant little boutique hotel, and the rooms felt much more comfortable than the courtyard rooms at Fort Bazaar. After busy days on the road, the quiet, homely feel was just what we needed. For the lower price, we thought these rooms were the better option. Breakfast is brought over each morning from Fort Bazaar’s kitchen and served at Lighthouse Street, a nice touch. You can still use the restaurant and bar at Fort Bazaar, then come back to a quieter place to relax. If you’re after comfort, good value and a retreat in Galle Fort, it’s worth booking. We only wish we’d stayed longer.

Prasad made sure we had what we needed, and was a wonderful host. We also got to use the main hotel’s facilities, including the guided tour and breakfast, and the pool was beautiful. This is the best villa or hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We didn’t want to leave, and we’ll definitely return on our next trip to Sri Lanka. Thanks to Prasad, Avi and the team!

We had cold glasses of water waiting after our run, and Prasad was great at finding solutions when the WiFi stopped working. Breakfast is available at the hotel or at the sister property’s restaurant in Fort Bazaar, and guests at 42 Lighthouse can use the Fort Bazaar pool too. The property and our room were gorgeous. This was our favorite hotel during our two weeks in Sri Lanka. Great location.
