Atapattu Walawwa Galle

Just a short distance from the Fort, this mansion has plenty of character. The owner is enthusiastic when talking about its history. The waluwa is surrounded by broad stretches of grass, and a greenish pool sits beneath overhanging trees. The design also lets cool crosswinds move through.

We booked through Agoda about two weeks before our trip. After the terrorist explosions in April 2019 and the dangerous situation that followed, we wanted to move our check-in date so we could visit Sri Lanka more safely. The hotel refused. When we called to ask about changing the date, the reception staff abruptly ended the call. Although Agoda said we would pay at the hotel on arrival, the hotel had already charged us in full. They said that if we didn't come, it would count as a no-show, and Agoda couldn't help because the hotel had the money. So we lost it. During our week traveling around Sri Lanka, we had to change our plans a lot because of the terrorism and security situation. Most of the other hotels we stayed at understood and agreed to cancel or change our bookings, and were happy to support our requests so we could complete the trip. This hotel was the exception. Shame on you.
