Fort Bazaar

The bar was a highlight for us. The Church Street Social is a lovely place to sit and watch the Fort go by, and happy hour really gets going. Be there at 5pm if you want to join in, Shanta kept everyone cheerful and the drinks flowing. We liked the little shops and cafés around Galle Fort, though the whole area is easy to cover in a day. We had hoped our hotel would feel like a cool retreat from the heat and the busy streets. Fort Bazaar is pleasant and the staff were lovely, but our courtyard room felt quite basic beside the luxurious rooms upstairs. After some very indulgent honeymoon stops, that was a bit of a letdown. We stayed here on the fifth leg of our honeymoon and chose to spend longer in Galle than elsewhere. I'm still not sure that was the right choice for us. If you're deciding where to stay, compare it with their sister property 42 Lighthouse Street around the corner. It costs considerably less, the rooms are much nicer, and you can still use Fort Bazaar's restaurant and bar. A nice hotel in a great spot, but choose your room carefully.

We went for lunch on Inoka's recommendation from Cape Welligama. The place is beautiful, and I really enjoyed the superfood bowl and Bazaar Special cocktail. A woman from the UK who was staying there told me the rooms are lovely too. Great meal!

The food was tasty and there was so much of it that we couldn't finish our portions. We also liked the cocktails and the happy hour, and the pool and spa were wonderfully relaxing. The whole hotel felt cosy, and our room was too. It's well placed for the restaurants and shops on Pedlar Street. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and the quality felt consistent with the other tear drops I've visited. We had a great time and would go back. Take advantage of the offers.

We only came for breakfast, so I can't say anything about the rooms. The interior was lovely, and the place would work well if you're after aesthetic photos. For a hearty meal, though, I'd skip it. We ordered a cafe mocha, pineapple and papaya juices, the css full breakfast, and eggs Benedict. The food was okay, but ridiculously expensive and not worth the price, maybe because it's inside Galle Fort. I was looking forward to the cafe mocha, but it arrived cold and was a letdown.
