Secret Garden Fort

The staff were attentive and fun to talk with. They chatted with us and even tried learning a few Turkish words, which was a nice touch. We ordered a vegan burger, shrimp wrap, cocktail, two beers, and water for dinner. The shrimp wrap was better, while the vegan burger wasn’t very good. It was one of the most expensive meals we had in Sri Lanka, so for that price the value felt a bit disappointing.

The chicken roti was tasty, mild, and really nice. The staff are friendly and know how to say “thank you” in about 30 languages. I also loved Chicken Lady, the dog who was easygoing and clearly not a stray. She got her name from chasing chickens.

Nothing tasted fresh, it all seemed old and frozen, and when we said the food was bad, they didn’t really respond. We paid LKR 2000+ for each of the dishes, yet the quality was extremely low and I could barely finish mine. My chili fish and chips was so saucy that my stomach felt weird afterward, and the chips were tiny, thin scraps. The club sandwich was completely dry and used cheap chicken ham even though it claimed to have bacon. The fish with sweet and sour sauce wasn’t any better. They also charge LKR 500+ for a mini sprite. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

A small hotel with a restaurant right in the middle of Galle Fort, so the location is great. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the food was good. The room wasn’t especially large, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked well.
