Thambili House by Edwards Collection Villa

A simple booking change became a nightmare, and we ended up cancelling our three-day stay with Edwards Collection because of how badly it was handled. They told us several times that the refund had been processed, but it took over three months to arrive. Most of our emails and calls went unanswered, and the updates we did get were vague and inconsistent. Worst of all, they gave us false bank transfer advice to buy more time while holding onto our money. Another hotel chain processed a refund for us within a day, even though we requested it well after this one, which made Edwards Collection’s internal handling all the more frustrating. We considered filing a complaint with the Consumer Affairs Authority because no one seemed accountable. For a brand that claims luxury and professionalism, this was extremely disappointing. I’d advise people to think twice before booking. If something goes wrong, don’t expect timely support or transparency.

The two-room setup was beautifully designed with antiques, and the stay was really comfortable. We were there for four nights and felt so special, thanks in part to the outstanding staff. Nothing was too much trouble for Buddi the Housekeeper, and the Chef was incredible. It was a wonderful experience, and we’ll recommend it to our friends. Thank you.

Inside Galle Fort, the courtyard entrance feels like a step back into the 19th century, with museum-quality teak furniture throughout this luxurious three-room boutique hotel. The two main rooms have balconies and huge bathrooms. There’s also a small, beautifully tiled dipping pool with space to sunbathe. Breakfast is excellent, especially if you want to try local food. The staff fit the feel of the hotel well, stay on-site when guests are there, and can get you what you need. It seems well suited to a B&B-style getaway or an intimate event.

We felt rushed into paying for an overpriced room before we could even see it, and what we got didn’t match the listing. It was advertised as having “rare uninterrupted sea views,” but there was no sea view. When we asked management for a partial refund, they said they have a “no refund” policy and offer dissatisfied guests a free meal or accommodation in another city instead. That suggests this may happen often. I’d avoid Thambili House and the wider Edwards Collection group of hotels. The marketing and refund policy felt fraudulent, and the operation seemed highly unprofessional.
