The way the host treated us was awful, and the whole stay was deeply disappointing. We were told breakfast started at 8.30 onwards, but with 11 of us and only 8 seats, we had to eat in shifts. We were done by 9.40am, yet the host kept insisting we arrive exactly at 8.30 and saying the food would be cleared. A reasonable breakfast time window seemed beyond their understanding. Later, after drinking alcohol, he came upstairs at night, shirtless, yelling in front of the men and women in our group about the 8.30 rule as if we were at military school. Other guests came out of their rooms and said he was disturbing them too. It was saddening to see locals treated so differently from the foreigners staying there. The hosts made no effort to sort out any of this and kept blaming guests for their own inefficiency. We also had repeated water outages. We told staff right away, but the water stayed off for at least half an hour, and instead of resolving it, they scolded us for supposedly using up multiple tanks after just two children had showered.

We loved the huge swimming pool, and it was kept very clean, like the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty to eat along with coffee and tea. The hosts were kind and helpful, and our room had very comfortable beds. Both the air conditioning and fan worked perfectly, and the room and spotless, comfortable bathroom were excellent.

The pool was lovely, and the place felt calm and relaxing. Our room was spotless, the bathroom clean and well kept, and the bed was really comfortable. We had a wonderful time in Galle and would happily recommend staying here.

After three weeks of travelling around Sri Lanka, Villa 71 was a lovely place to stay before heading to the airport. The owners were so sweet, greeting us with smiles, and breakfast in the morning was great. The rooms were very comfortable and the villa was clean. I’m amazed we got all that for such a low price. It’s a bit farther from Galle, but tuk tuks are very cheap. I’d definitely recommend it.

A peaceful, very clean place. We had a great time, and it felt welcoming to foreigners.
