We were three friends stopping for lunch before our safari, and Mihini Restaurant became one of the best parts of our time in Sri Lanka. The setting is green and peaceful, and the welcome felt sincere. We were treated more like guests in someone’s home than restaurant customers. The food was fresh, homemade Sri Lankan cooking, with a generous spread of distinct dishes that were full of flavor and clearly made with care. It felt genuinely local, just the sort of meal you hope for when you want to eat as locals do. After lunch we went on to our elephant safari, and seeing elephants in the wild after such a great meal made for a perfect day. If you’re near Habarana or heading to a safari, Mihini Restaurant is well worth a stop. We loved the people, food, and experience.

We tried buffalo curd and treacle for the first time here, and it was fantastic. My wife kept looking for it for the rest of our trip. We had a tasty mix of chicken and vegetarian dishes, and the meal was deliciously home cooked. My wife has a severe garlic allergy, and they made sure her food had none. Our guide brought us here before the elephant safari, and we were the only guests. Highly recommend lunch here!

Our guide brought us here for lunch, and it was a really nice stop. The people were lovely and the Sri Lankan food was excellent, fresh, and full of distinct flavors. Most ingredients are grown on site. On our way in, we passed a tray of chilies drying in the sun. Well worth stopping by.

We got there close to 10pm. There were only two tables occupied, but we’d seen good comments on TA and there weren’t many other options at that hour. The welcome was nice, and the garden is pleasant and the place quite clean. I can’t eat gluten, and my friend is vegan, with no meat, milk, eggs, honey, or anything else from animals. We had a private guide with us who explained this to the staff, and they took care of it. Dinner was very good and fairly priced. Enjoy!
