Edelweiss Residence

We spent four weeks here in November 2019 in the spacious, bright top-floor studio apartment. It looked just like the photos and was well equipped. The air conditioning worked well, though we often used the ceiling fan, and two balconies let us open both doors for a lovely breeze. The strong Wi-Fi and weekly use of the washing machine were handy. We also enjoyed sitting on the front balcony and watching local wildlife: birds, including kingfishers, monkeys, squirrels, monitor lizards and a mongoose. The railway line nearby was nice to walk along, as the locals do. We could hear the crossing bell and the Colombo Fort to Beliaththa trains honking and rumbling past. The apartment is in a private residential area, about an easy 6-7 minute walk from Narigama Beach, with plenty of places there to eat, drink, sunbathe and surf. A small stall at the end of the approach road sells basics like eggs, water and rice. We mostly got provisions from a well-stocked tourist supermarket about a 20-minute walk each way, following the railway line rather than the main road. There's a liquor store with a wine shop beside it, and a local market near the railway station every Sunday for fruit, vegetables, snacks and household bits. We also liked shopping at a nearby vegetable store on our way to and from the beach, so there was plenty of choice. Tuk tuks are available if you don't want to walk. Uditha was a great super host, attentive and easy to communicate with. Ranga, the resident houseboy, cleaned the apartment about every three days and changed the towels and bed linen. He was always friendly and smiling, and on hand if we needed anything, even though we couldn't speak the same language. Airport pickup or drop-off can be arranged for an extra charge. We'll definitely return and recommend it to friends.

The quiet garden made this a lovely place to unwind after the day. Our room was clean, comfortable and in a peaceful area close to the beach.

A high-standard apartment building surrounded by wildlife. The main road is only a short walk away. Totally awesome and highly recommended.
