For hostel standards, I’d recommend it. We paid $7 a night, which was cheap, and got a nice welcome and a good breakfast from a very friendly, easygoing host with plenty of personality. The rooms were okay, though the beds weren’t that comfy and the washrooms could have been a bit nicer. If you know what you’re getting into, it’s a good choice.
The breakfast they served each morning was excellent, and the place itself was clean and spacious, with a big open area to hang out in. I felt at home from the moment I arrived, welcomed like family and included in everything. I made friends with lots of great travellers, and we all extended our stays because we didn’t want to leave. It’s less than a two-minute walk to some of the best snorkeling in Hikkaduwa. On our first day, the owner took us straight out from the beach, where we saw lots of corals, fish, sea turtles, and even a 3-meter black fin shark. My favourite place in Sri Lanka so far. The place feels secure, and there’s parking for about three vehicles. It’s on the land side, within walking distance of Hikkaduwa town and the beach, with mini supermarkets nearby for shopping. The owner and staff are very friendly, and breakfast is freshly made, very good, and nicely presented. There’s a calm hangout area and a small garden with flower bushes where a few birds are always around. The bed is moderately comfortable and the bathroom is okay. Be mindful when crossing the railway crossing on the way.
There are lockers for keeping your belongings safe, and the place felt secure. Prices were reasonable, service was at its best, and the food was great and nicely served. The cozy, calm hangout area has books, chess, carrom, and room to sing or listen to music. You can arrange snorkeling, surf, fishing, safari, and whale watching tours here. Tourists from all over the world have left recommendations all over the walls. Normally they don’t offer accommodation to locals, but there weren’t many tourists, and with a reference from Poseidon Diving station, we were able to stay. I recommend this place to anyone travelling around Hikkaduwa.
We only meant to stay one night, but ended up extending to five because there’s something special that makes you want to stay. The hosts make you feel like family, and the simple breakfast is tasty. They’re super friendly and helpful, with great connections around town, so it was easy to get whatever we needed or find our way around. Highly recommend.
