We’d booked three nights, but left the morning after our first night because the place was so disappointing. Based on the description and photos, we expected much better. The grounds outside were in very poor shape and seemed neglected, and the property looks like it missed a major renovation about 10 years ago. There were plenty of problems, including dirty bedding, a bad smell in the room, outdated facilities, weak cleanliness, and poor maintenance. The room didn’t feel comfortable or welcoming. In our opinion, it needs refurbishment and much more attention to cleanliness and guest comfort.

We came to Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel for a family vacation. The sea view and location were nice, and parking was available, though sometimes tricky. Staff were friendly and the welcome was pleasant. Our room was clean, but the phone and TV didn’t work properly. Dinner took ages, with big gaps between courses. It wasn’t a bad stay, but we weren’t completely satisfied.

The restaurant area was unclean, and the towels were so old they weren’t suitable for proper use. Cleanliness overall seemed very poor. Service also felt cold and careless, with not one staff member showing basic friendliness or even a welcoming smile. We chose the hotel based on its online photos, but the room we got was completely different and very disappointing. When we raised it at reception, they called it “normal” and blamed management. Nobody took responsibility or tried to fix the problem. It was a very unpleasant stay, and I wouldn’t recommend the place unless cleanliness, advertising honesty, and customer service improve.

We liked how close Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel is to the beach, shops, and restaurants. The staff were welcoming, and our room was spacious and good value for what we paid. The food was a letdown. The Tom Yum soup tasted more like Indian rasam, and the buffet was acceptable for the price but short on flavour. Our TV also didn’t work. We told room service and were assured someone would come, then followed up the next day and heard it would be fixed as soon as possible. Nobody came to repair it while we were there. Better food and more reliable maintenance follow-up would make for a much better stay.
