The location is a plus, and the breakfast was okay. There was a choice of continental or Sri Lankan food. The continental plate had an omelet, four slices of barely toasted white bread, and a tiny cup of tea. The room itself was clean, and I didn't see any cockroaches, despite what earlier reviews said. Still, the hotel looked old and neglected, with broken, dirty areas, and it felt abandoned. General cleanliness wasn't awful, but the place needs attention. The staff didn't come across as genuinely friendly to me, more like they were being polite because they had to. At check-in, reception said we could pay by card. The next day, they told us card payment wasn't possible and asked who had told us otherwise. After we complained, suddenly paying by card was possible after all. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place.

The meals were delicious, and Gnanam's Hotel was conveniently located for exploring the city. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had a wonderful stay, highly recommend it, and hope to come back.

If you're after a budget stay and don't expect much, this could work. The rates are reasonable and there's plenty of parking. It's also handy for the town bus stand on foot, with restaurants, shops, and other facilities nearby. The rooms are basic rather than luxurious, and ours seemed poorly maintained and not very clean. Housekeeping and maintenance need improvement. The outdoor dining and rest area has potential, but is also not well kept. Staff training could help improve the guest experience.
