Horizon Kite Surfing Beach Resort

The pools were clean and inviting, though none of the benches, chairs or beach chairs had cushions. The dining room was indoors. The beach was littered with broken glass, and there was litter between the bungalows too. The location is fantastic, especially for good kiters. Restaurants are within walking distance, and advanced kiters can launch from the resort beach. But the staff didn't know about kiting and weren't helpful with transport to the lagoons for beginners.

The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, with lovely views of either the pool or ocean. Chef Nikson, Anthony, Supun and the rest of the team gave us warm, personal service throughout our stay. The food was superb, and the staff were amazing. We had a fabulous time at Horizon and highly recommend it. Thank you for looking after us so well. We'll be back!

Our room looked out to sea, and hearing the gentle waves from bed was wonderful. Not every room has that view, and the other rooms are very quiet. The beachfront feels private, though local fishermen share it. Rooms, huts and villas each have their own space and privacy, and the resort has a relaxed, comfortable feel. Everyone on staff was friendly and made a real effort to make our stay welcoming and pleasant. It suits couples, families and solo travellers.

Our group of 16 had a peaceful, enjoyable stay, and the staff were pleasant and helpful throughout. They also made late checkout smooth and hassle-free. The property's ocean-side setting has a private-beach feel, and having two pools helped spread people out so our group could enjoy time together and still have privacy. The garden was lush and serene, and the grounds were very well maintained. The restaurant and bar were enclosed and air-conditioned, a real relief from Kalpitiya's heat and flies. We booked full board. Breakfast was the best of the three buffet meals; lunch and dinner were okay, but the à la carte rice and curry was the best we'd had. Our seven chalets were spacious and beautifully designed, with attractive open-air bathrooms. Some were better maintained than others, and a few air conditioners didn't cool very well, so that could be improved.
