Kalpitiya Beach Hostel

The beach is still wild and clean, and it's about 50 meters from the hostel, with clear blue-green water that's around 28 degrees most of the year. Doug, the manager, and his team made me feel royally welcome. I ended up staying longer than planned. Best hostel I found in Sri Lanka, and I don't think you'd regret staying here.

I was only here for a short part of my trip around Sri Lanka, but it's a very social and impressively clean hostel. The beach is just a minute away, a nice spot to relax with a drink. Doug really goes out of his way for guests. Thanks again for getting my shorts back to Negombo after I left them behind, you saved me! Keep it up, Kalpitiya Beach Hostel.

A good affordable stay in Kalpitiya, close to the “city” for picking up food and only about two minutes from the beach. The owners are helpful and friendly. The rooms and bathroom were clean, and there's a kitchen for cooking, plus water, tea and coffee for free.

Doug, the manager, is a funny, generous guy and one of the coolest people I've met. I loved how relaxed this place felt, and it was clean, fun, and a great spot for kite surfers. The hostel sits on the beach between the two kite surfing lagoons, outside town. A nearby kite school drives people to the lagoon twice a day. Right in front is a quiet, peaceful beach with amazing sunsets, and the water is calm, unlike the south of the country. I stayed two weeks, and this was my favorite hostel in all of Sri Lanka so far. There's plenty to do while hanging out, including a Pétanque court in the sand and some other games whose names I've forgotten. It has everything you need to unwind. You'd be crazy to miss it. I loved this place!
