Bawlana Estate - Kandy

The garden was beautifully maintained, and the mountain-top ⛰️view was stunning. We loved the bungalow, from the room and the staff’s excellent service to the delicious food. The cozy, unique evening bonfire 🔥was exactly what we’d hoped for. We didn’t even want to leave at checkout, and are so grateful for the experience. 😍 Highly recommended for anyone! 🇱🇰

The staff were kind and knew when to help while still giving us space. There are nature trails nearby, with birdsong in the background, and open-air spots for a starry meal or a lazy brunch by the pool. The hillside is peaceful, almost meditative, and the rooms feel airy and elegant, with little touches that make them feel like home. From the infinity pool you can watch clouds move across distant hills and tree-lined valleys. The view, with layers of forest, glimpses of water, and dusk skies that keep changing, is reason enough to stay. This hideaway has a laid-back charm with understated luxury, and it really makes you slow down and breathe.

The Belwood viewpoint is just minutes away, and there are hiking spots all around. Bawlana feels like an ideal escape. From the couch you can look out across valleys, lakes, trees, and forests, and the terrace faces the sunrise from its perch on a peak. The rooms are elegant, comfortable, and tastefully done, with plenty of places to dine outdoors. The chef and staff are creative and keep trying to make your stay better, while still respecting your privacy. It’s a unique place.

The boulder at the far end of the bungalow looked especially beautiful at night, and the fire pit made the evening feel cozy and memorable. We loved the pool, too. The colonial-style Bawlana Estate bungalow was a wonderful Christmas retreat, with awe-inspiring views and sunrises we couldn’t get enough of. The staff were attentive, well trained, and made us feel at home. We highly recommend this getaway and hope to return.
