The room was basic, but the location is great, very close to the lake. Service could be a bit slow, though the guy working there was cool, chatty, and helped us with everything we needed. They offered tickets for the local dance show. Just know that the tickets they sell are for the cheaper show. If you want a better one, buy elsewhere. The cheaper performance wasn’t bad, just more basic, I imagine. And go see the fruit bats in the mango trees by the lake in the morning!

There’s potential here, but the place has clearly seen better days. Our room was spacious but dark, with tired decor. The bathroom was pretty grotty: the toilet was broken, and the shower only trickled, taking ages to start and then ages to stop. The staff were fairly friendly, but the welcome wasn’t great. There were no lights on when we arrived. Breakfast was included. A delightful young woman served it, and the food was basic but not bad: cold omelette, no fresh milk until we asked and someone went to get some, good string hoppers, and hot curry. The sausage was inedible. There was a bird house inside, and birds kept flying around. It wasn’t terrible, and at £18 a night, I guess you get what you pay for. With some renovation, it could be lovely.

Booking was super easy, and the staff made us feel at home. The food was genuinely delicious, and our room was clean and cozy. It’s a peaceful little place in Kandy, with a beautiful garden atmosphere, especially in the evening.

We spent a week at Fortuna heritage home and would definitely recommend it if you’re in Kandy. The owner and staff were extremely helpful and gave great service. Our rooms were tidy, the surroundings were nice, and the tasty breakfast was free.

The breakfast was excellent, and for an upmarket dinner the hotel de suisse is literally next door. The location is great, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. It’s a lovely old colonial style building, and Danuka deserves a special mention for being so helpful while we were there.
