Galaxy City Hotel

Posted in Dec 2025. They’re renovating and doing construction but still accepting bookings. The rooms were okay and spacious, though nothing great. The staff were kind and attentive, and answered all our calls for help. That’s where the good part ended. We were there for two nights. On the first night, the water was muddy and wouldn’t clear, so we had to wash up with bottled water. On the second night, it stopped completely and didn’t come back until morning. Guests had no way to take care of basic needs. Even after it returned, there was no pressure on the fifth floor, so we still couldn’t shower properly. Breakfast is included: an omelette, two sausages, toast, cut fruit, and tea or coffee, with no other options. With the place under construction, the only available space is a suite with a dining table on floor #3.

The staff made this stay special. Manager Dinesh remembered me from my last visit even though I’d only stayed for two days, and the team were friendly and always greeted us with a smile. When my PickMe drivers kept cancelling, one of the team arranged a free ride for me to my tailor appointment on Castle Lane. I was very touched and highly recommend the hotel. It’s conveniently located close to shops and attractions, with lovely hill views. It’s not up in the mountains, so it’s easy to get to. The rooms are large and clean, and great value for money.

We liked the hotel enough to stay an extra night after booking for two. The room was dated and a bit noisy in the morning because of the single glazing and heavy traffic, but it was spacious, clean, and well located. It had all the amenities: fridge, water cooker, safe, a good shower, and a huge comfortable bed. The air conditioning worked well, and the staff were very professional and flexible about extending our stay. We skipped breakfast here. It was absolutely worth the cost. The city centre is within walking distance, and we enjoyed our evening walks after dinner. Weekday traffic is heavy, so if a 20-25 minute walk doesn’t suit you, a tuktuk would be better.

Even with a late-night check-in, the service was phenomenal. They welcomed us with drinks when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. The rooms were up to the mark, and the location was decent. Throughout our stay in Sri Lanka, the manager and staff here gave us some of the most extraordinary hospitality. They were polite and did their best to help. Breakfast was awesome too. Highly recommended for solo travelers or groups looking for a cozy stay in Kandy. Thank you.
