It’s a small property in a rural part of Kandy district, with rooms for rent and no space even for a small birthday party. The location is quite good, and there’s a nice pool.

The setting is beautiful: Galkanda Walawwa sits in a lush green estate, where birdsong made our mornings feel peaceful. Our children had the whole estate to explore, and seeing a couple of deer cubs wandering around was a rare, lovely moment we’ll always remember. We spent four nights here on a family holiday, and the hosts made every moment special. They went out of their way to meet our needs and made us feel welcome and pampered. The staff were warm, professional, always smiling, and ready to help. Every meal, from breakfast through dinner, brought delicious Sri Lankan specialties, like authentic home cooking at its best. The hosts clearly took pride in sharing their food traditions. They also decorated the dining table differently and beautifully for each meal, which made every one feel special. Galkanda Walawwa is 125 years old and gorgeous, a rare mix of peace, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality. It’s a wonderful choice for a relaxed family holiday.

The villa was huge, peaceful, and surprisingly affordable for the stay. The host was always around to make sure I was comfortable. I was there for my birthday, and they made it feel special with a surprise cake cutting, a spread of special dishes, and lovely wishes. The warmth started as soon as I arrived. This 125-year-old house has been cared for beautifully, keeping its historic charm while still offering modern comforts. I left with a memorable experience and would happily return to Kandy for another stay.

Christmas with our family here felt warm and personal. The whole family came over, there was music, and they made us feel like we belonged with them. We had a lovely stay and received excellent service. The house has a rich history, and the kindness and care are reasons we'd recommend staying here.

The food was exceptional, and the hosts were so friendly. My friends and I stayed at Galkanda Walawwa on a full-board basis, and the place made this one of my most memorable visits to Kandy. We enjoyed the whole stay in this lovely walawwa with its historical value. Kudos to the Rathwatte family.
