Heavens Door Guest Inn

Room service was good, but parking wasn't available. The bathroom was dirty, and we had to ask for Harpic and clean it ourselves. The room also needed more lighting.

The location is handy, close to town, and all five rooms we booked were spacious with their own shower and toilet. The stay still felt poor value, and I was glad we were there for just one night. A leak in one room, a broken bathroom light in another, and a musty smell added to the problems. Some rooms had no rubbish bin. The beds had a bottom sheet, but the duvet had stains and no cover. We were told breakfast was included when booking, then told on arrival that it wasn't.

The owners run Heavens Inn themselves and were a really friendly, accommodating couple. I had breakfast each morning and loved it. Another guest told me dinner was great too. Getting around is easy: it's close to Kandy town, and tuk-tuks pass along the road outside. I struggled to find the place on Google Maps, but a call to the owners got me directions. There's a staircase up to it. The room facilities were great, and I'd highly recommend staying here.

The owners were friendly, and the inn has a well-kept garden and a small pond just inside the gate. The guesthouse is close enough to walk into Kandy, and our room opened onto a balcony with a good mountain view. There are two small shops on the road to the inn, and lunch is provided. Our floor had six rooms, with perhaps one more downstairs, so it seemed suitable for around 13 guests. One room had an extra bed for three people. Getting in means climbing many steep steps, with no wheelchair or vehicle access. The room had a couple of chairs, a small table, cupboard, dressing table, clothes rack, springy beds, and adjustable LED lights. Most rooms had air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The shared area had a rocking chair and a small fridge. Our private bathroom was clean and had no smell, with hot water at both the shower and sink. The bathing area was small but open rather than a stall, so space wasn't an issue, and a curtain could cover it. Meals seemed pricey for locals, so we ate in town. There were no mosquito nets, though we saw very few mosquitoes. The owner has an airgun to scare monkeys away, but we didn't see any. Wi-Fi was free, though I only got 21 Mbps in the room. The balcony's metal railing may be slowing it down. Across the hill are a mosque, church, and cemetery, and we heard them occasionally, but it didn't bother us.
