Holistic Villas River

We had a frustrating experience and wouldn't recommend staying here. Finding the place was difficult even with Google Maps. After circling twice, a local kindly helped us call the host, and then we found it. There were seven of us. At check-in the manager suggested dinner, especially the “curry rice,” and said each set had five kinds of curry. We ordered three sets and two grilled chicken dishes. What arrived was two plates of rice, two small bowls of dal, a salad, mixed vegetables, and one plate of chicken. The chicken wasn't fully cooked, so we asked them to redo it. When we asked where the five curries were, the manager said the items on the table counted. We let that go. At checkout, though, we were charged for seven curry rice sets and three grilled chicken dishes, plus a Rp 5,000 corkage fee. Asked why seven sets, the manager said it was because there were seven of us. We'd only ordered three, and he hadn't said it was charged per person. The corkage fee also hadn't been mentioned beforehand. This is a guesthouse, so the fee seemed especially odd. We said we'd call the police, and the manager eventually offered a small discount. We still paid for four curry rice sets, three chicken dishes, and the corkage fee. Being billed for food we hadn't ordered and getting a surprise charge felt dishonest.

Just beyond Kandy town, this is a beautiful villa. Sri gave us service that went well beyond what we expected.

Mr Lucky from housekeeping was really nice and gave great service. The villa was good, breakfast was nice, and we had a very good experience. Worth it.
