We were there while the dormitories were being renovated, which may be why the hostel was so quiet, with only a couple of other guests. The rooms were all very clean, and I'd recommend staying here to see Kandy's sights. The kitchen was a lovely place to relax, with lots of windows and everything needed for cooking. Staff were really friendly and helpful. They also kindly let us leave our bags there for a couple of weeks while we did the Pekoe trail.

We booked two nights, but after getting through one we moved to another hostel where there were actual people. It was so empty that for a moment we wondered if we'd arrived after closing. Even though rooms were available, we were put right by a construction site, which supplied free alarm clocks. There was no AC, just a ceiling fan doing its best, so sleeping wasn't really an option. A very “meh” stay.

The social feel was a nice part of staying at 281 Kandy City Hostel, and it was easy to meet other travelers. The staff were friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. The location is right in the city center, handy for exploring nearby attractions. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. A convenient and enjoyable place to stay in Kandy.

The location is convenient, but the room wasn't soundproof and got too noisy. Cleanliness was okay, though the bathroom smelled bad. They didn't provide free Wi-Fi, and there's no lift.

We could walk to the city center, and the staff were helpful. The manager gave us free Wi-Fi and a co-working space. Our room was large, with AC, a fan, reading lights, and a hot water bath. There's also a pretty kitchen guests can use for free. Definitely coming back.
