Kandy Eco Retreat

The host was so friendly. I arrived late in the evening, and they ordered a delicious dinner from a nearby kitchen at a good price. I also booked an Ayurveda herbal sauna for that same evening on the spur of the moment. It was a unique experience in a wooden box outside, looking out into the jungle, followed by a massage in a wooden hut. I felt great. This was my first Ayurveda treatment and massage, so I can’t compare it with others. I also spontaneously joined a rooftop yoga class, surrounded by palms and other forest plants. I practice Hatha yoga at home, and the instructor seemed competent and thoughtful to me. My private lessons cost about 15€. The lodge is right by the jungle, with all the sounds and plants, but still close to Kandy City. A TukTuk to the Center costs 250-450 LKR. You may need to guide the driver with google maps, since they often don’t know the place. The room is cute but basic. There were spider webs and some holes in the sheets, though that didn’t bother me, and it didn’t seem dirty. It all suited the jungle feel. The lodge has three double rooms or three tents, with the rooms next to each other, which is nice if you’re traveling alone and want someone to chat with.

As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and comfortable here, and only wish I’d had more time. The host was welcoming, kind, and thoughtful. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, and they packed a lunch for me to take out. It felt like a real break from the city, even though the city isn’t very far away. I loved the morning yoga class up among the tree canopies. The teacher was brilliant and explained things really well. The lodge is peaceful in the middle of the jungle, with so much care put into making it feel authentic. The massage was incredible, and the Ayurvedic sauna was pure bliss. I even fell asleep! Book the massage as soon as you arrive. I’ll recommend this place to all my friends.

We loved using the rooftop yoga shala for our morning practice. The retreat was quiet and private, away from the busy town, but only a tuk tuk ride from the lake and a pleasant walk from the white Buddha temple. I also had a massage and steam bath, which felt healing. One of our favorite places to stay in Sri Lanka.

We had an ayurvedic massage here and it was really good. I can highly recommend the place.
