Kandy Hill Bungalow

The setting is the best part, with lovely surroundings and a location close to the city center. The bungalow has both historic character and modern facilities, and the food was great. The staff were very hospitable, and Roshan looked after us especially well. I'd happily recommend it.

This was my worst AirBnB stay. We bought groceries to make breakfast for a friend's birthday, but staff said there was no gas because of the country's problems and the electric stove didn't work. I've been in Sri Lanka for two months, so I know about the difficulties, and I also know gas can be bought when needed. When I asked them to sort it out, they told me to contact Colombo, then stopped speaking English. We were left with food we couldn't use and money wasted. Another friend needed to work, but there was no WiFi, so he lost both time and money. There was only one roll of toilet paper for six rooms, no hot water in the morning, and the place was VERY dirty. The AC and TV didn't work in some rooms, the plumbing was poor, and getting to the villa by bus was really difficult. It was VERY dirty, too.

The garden has a Kandy Garden feel, with plenty of herbs and fruit trees, and you can see the mountain range from outside. It's a calm, relaxed spot. The old bungalow sits on a mountain near Peradeniya. The concrete road up is well built, though steep and zigzagging. Maintenance is slow, but the rooms were okay for what we paid. A good overnight stay if you like colonial bungalows.

The property is in Kandy, 4 km from Kandy Railway Station and 5 km from Temple of Tooth Relic. Bandaranaike International Airport is 104 km away. This is a refurbished colonial property with air-conditioned rooms and private bathrooms. Rooms have a flat-screen satellite TV, a terrace with a view, and a bath or shower with free toiletries. Linen and towels are supplied.
