Majestic Tourist Hotel

The hosts were so friendly and gave us really useful advice about Kandy and getting around. They sat and chatted with us over breakfast every morning and helped us plan our day. We loved our time at majestic. Breakfast was delicious, with huge portions of both English and Sri Lankan food. The bed was really comfortable, and the balcony view was stunning. If I’m back in Kandy, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Thanks so much for the hospitality.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. The trouble started when I called the hotel to confirm my reservation and spoke with a woman. Later, I phoned again to say I was on my way with a group and might take a while to check in. A man answered and rudely said the gates close at 9 PM because he wanted to sleep, and that he wouldn’t open the gate for a dog after that time. Those were his exact words, and they felt unethical and completely unexpected. I was embarrassed, and finding somewhere else to stay so late was extremely difficult. The whole situation came from what I felt was arrogant behavior by the man and woman. This kind of conduct is unacceptable in hospitality, and it seemed to me they didn’t understand its basic meaning. Don’t waste your money or peace of mind by staying here. Avoid it.

The owners couldn’t have done more for us, and the service was second to none. When I became ill during our relaxing stay at Majestic hotel, the owner even made me jackfruit curry to help me feel better. Thank you for having us and taking care of me. The beds weren’t very comfortable, though, and it’s about a half-hour walk into town. That’s doable when you’re feeling well, but a bit of a struggle when you’re ill.

The food was a real highlight, delicate and delicious, and the service was exceptional. I don’t blame the owner for what happened, since the kalari team had agreed to clean up after themselves and apparently hadn’t explained their activities or equipment when they booked. Still, I’d prefer the owners to be aware of what’s going on with guests before handing over rooms. My family had expected our stay at majestic tourist hotel to be the joy of our winter vacation, but disturbances from the kalari group sharing the hotel affected us during our three weeks there. We had no issue with the team itself, but their behavior felt indecent and inconsiderate. Breakfast was filled with such loud noise that our peaceful meal was disrupted. They also had a lot of kalari weapons and equipment around, which frightened us. We raised our concerns with the owner because we couldn’t tolerate the nuisance any longer. The group of 12 had also promised to clean up after meals, but left food and polythene everywhere, along with children’s pads. Our extended family was unhappy about that.
