The Grand Hanthana

From my balcony, the view was breathtaking, and mornings were peaceful with birdsong. This guest house is about 5km from Kandy town on the scenic, somewhat mountainous Hanthana Road, so keep the terrain in mind when planning your trip. The rooms are spacious, spotless, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable, with all amenities included. It felt luxurious while still being surprisingly affordable. As of Dec '24, it was room-only, but meals could be arranged in advance. The caretaker was friendly and attentive, adding to a wonderful stay. Great value for the price, and I’ll definitely return on my next Kandy trip.

Waking up to drizzle, birdsong, and monkeys playing in the trees was unforgettable, with a beautiful view of lush greenery from our room. We stayed as a family of four, two adults and two kids, on our first stop in Sri Lanka after landing in Colombo, and it was a delight. The hotel is only a few minutes from Kandy city. We arrived in the evening, but staff still arranged delicious food and made us comfortable. A special thanks to the kind, helpful man at reception, wearing a grey and black t-shirt in my photo, who handled all our requests, from coordinating food delivery and quickly fixing a hot water issue to arranging bottled water late at night after our day trip. Breakfast was beautifully laid out, and we really enjoyed it. Highly recommended, and a well-deserved 5⭐ experience.

Upul was such a friendly, attentive host and went out of his way to help make our stay enjoyable. The location is next to lush forest and away from the busy streets, while still being close enough to explore Kandy. Breakfast was delicious, with continental and traditional Sri Lankan options, and he kindly catered to our vegan diet too.

The grand suite was a lovely place to spend two nights, surrounded by greenery in a wonderfully quiet area. Our host was very friendly and helpful. It’s a nice starting point for a hike, away from the noise and bustle of Kandy, and easy to reach by Tuktuk.
