The eco-friendly chalet design was a highlight, comfortable and lovely to look at while still feeling in tune with the surroundings. The team also arranged a superb wild safari that gave us some really nice memories. Meals were tailored to our preferences and dietary needs, and everything we tried was delicious. From arrival onward, the staff were warm and attentive, and the management made it clear they truly care about their guests. I had a memorable, luxurious stay at La Serenado and would happily return.

The rail run track right beside the place follows the park border, which is a great detail. They also arrange safaris to the national park. This is a retreat next to Sri Lanka’s biggest national park, with a lovely natural setting and a strong local feel. I did wish there were more accommodation options, though fewer people can make for a calmer holiday. One caution: if you’re not used to wildlife moving around nearby, this may not be for you. It felt very safe for adventurous guests looking to be close to nature.

La Serenado, managed by Kamal Semage, is a spacious and distinctive place in Kataragama, the small town before Yala. The chalets have funky designs and were very reasonably priced. I’ve booked a lot of places in Sri Lanka, and this is the most unique stay so far. There’s plenty of nature around, and I was lucky enough to see a few wild peacocks and some rare birds wandering through.

If you want a quiet break with cleaner, fresh air near Yala national park, this is a lovely spot. It’s peaceful and surrounded by nature, and the people are really friendly. The Sri Lankan food comes in a good variety and is very tasty. Highly recommended for a calm vacation.

Family-run, and they were very supportive. The rooms were clean, and it’s a nice place to get away from a busy routine. The Sri Lankan food and drinks were tasty and distinctive. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a green setting.
