OYO 365 Kingsgate Transit Hotel

The bed and sheets were extremely old, as if they’d been used for 10 years, and cleanliness was basically zero. Service and communication with customers were very disappointing too. A very poor stay. I strongly recommend avoiding this place.

I’ve never written a long review before, but this stay was so bad that other travelers should know what they may be walking into. I’m Sri Lankan and have family in the hotel business here, so I know what a decent stay should be like. The room was advertised at 9,000 LKR. When we arrived, they changed the price to 12,000 LKR for the same room. We had no small notes, so we handed over 15,000 LKR expecting change, but the staff kept the full amount. That was a dishonest start. The room was in awful shape. The bedsheet had visible blood stains, the towel had a big dirty stool stain down the middle, and there were bed bugs and insects. It was shocking to see such a lack of basic hygiene. The room felt unclean and poorly maintained, nothing like the advertised pictures, and we were already regretting staying there. This was like a horror themed stay. Five stars if that’s your thing. Otherwise, maybe bring a hazmat suit. The hotel showed no professionalism, hygiene, or transparency about pricing. Charging more than advertised, keeping a customer’s change, and providing stained bedding and reused towels is disgusting. There are plenty of lovely, honest places to stay in Sri Lanka, and this isn’t one of them. Save your money and time and book anywhere else. Other Google reviews describe the same issues, so this doesn’t seem like a one-off; the owners need to make serious changes. In my words, it’s feral, filthy and sick! I gave the hotel manager a mouthful and consider that my complimentary feedback.

There were six of us, and we had booked a three-bedroom room for six hours so we could shower, change into fresh clothes, eat, and then head to the airport. We had even paid a 2,000 rupee advance. The owner first quoted 7,500 rupees, but when we arrived at 4 a.m., he said only a family room was available and demanded 10,500 rupees. I explained that we weren’t staying overnight, just changing clothes before going out to eat and then leaving for the airport. I reminded him he had quoted 7,500, but he wouldn’t listen and spoke very rudely. He took advantage of our difficult situation to get more money from us. This is a money-hungry, fraudulent hotel, and the owner’s words don’t match his actions. No one should choose a hotel run by such greedy money devils.

Just avoid this place. The owner’s behavior was awful, though one female staff member was a bit friendly. The rooms are trash, even if you only need a few hours near the airport. Run far, run fast. He made us pay first. My friend’s flight was a few hours later, and he wanted to use my room to freshen up. As soon as he came in, the owner started shouting that I’d booked for one person and kept repeating, “I will not let you in.” We eventually changed the booking from one person to two and paid extra, but he still wouldn’t listen or even hear what I was trying to say. He just kept barking. It was so aggravating. The room was dirty, the bathroom lights didn’t work, the key kept getting stuck, and the electric disconnector still didn’t work after the key was inserted. The walls were very dirty too. Totally discouraging.
