Kirinda Beach Front Hotel

Rashan, the owner, was always smiling and ready to help with almost anything. The hotel covers a large area, so there’s plenty of quiet space. The landscape here is quite different, which adds to its beauty. It’s mostly visited by local tourists, but it’s a great place to stay. The accommodation and food are very budget-friendly, and since the area isn’t heavily geared toward tourists, you don’t get fleeced. The food is excellent and filling. We’ll surely return someday. The garden was a real highlight, with hammocks both under the trees and out in the sun. Kirinda itself has a lot to see: the temple, statue, and rocks along the beach are stunning. Two monitor lizards can be spotted in the garden at Kirinda beach front, and nearby gardens have peacocks and land turtles. The man there showed me a photo of a huge crocodile that villagers had caught a week earlier and sent to yala park. We stayed three nights, four friends in two double rooms. The fan room was 2500 LKR per night and included toast with jam for breakfast, which was good value. Menu meals were quite expensive and took a very long time, at least an hour. The guy was helpful, arranged a yala safari for a reasonable price, and let us pay only half for the third night since we left at 23:00 to catch our flight. Wifi barely worked. There are lots of wandering dogs around Kirinda, and not many places to eat or shops. The beaches are generally not very clean, and the ocean is strong. The beach to the left of the rocks, looking out to sea, is calmer and was okay for swimming for me, though I’m a strong swimmer and my friends only got their feet wet. Kirinda feels adventurous now, but I think it could be a famous resort in several years. If you want a tidy beach with facilities nearby, go to Mirrisa or Unawatuna.

After the drive through the village, a beautiful beach suddenly opens up. There are big rocks, a temple perched above them, and it’s a nice spot for photos or a beach party. If you’re visiting hambantota, put kirinda beach on your list. The people around there are good too.
