Gypsy Garden Guesthouse

We first stayed here for two nights at the start of our Sri Lanka trip, then returned for four more at the end because we liked it so much. Our children are 4 and 7, and it was just right for all of us. The family were incredibly warm and generous, sharing local knowledge and making sure we had what we needed. They took us on several nearby outings, including a moonstone mine, a turtle hatchery, and a boat trip. The garden is full of spice plants, fruit trees and coconut palms, and there's a plunge pool. The rooms are clean, tidy and well kept. The area is peaceful and close to nature, with an authentic Sri Lankan feel. A beautiful beach is a 5-10 minute walk away, and a reef protects a great swimming spot, so the kids could enjoy the sea safely. We ate all our meals here, and everything was fresh, tasty and healthy. We would've happily stayed even longer.

I've been back to Gypsy Garden a few times, and the family's hospitality has been amazing every visit. They do so much to make you feel at home in their guesthouse. The rooms are spotless, with great attention to detail. They serve some of the best local food I've had in Sri Lanka, always freshly made with local ingredients and generous portions. I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Sri Lanka.

We spent three days with Piyal, Pramod and their family, who looked after us so well. Sapna made our lunches and dinners. Pramod took us to a turtle hatching place and on a lagoon boat trip to see the birds. He also lent us his scooter, and drove us to our next accommodation in the family truck. They're a really helpful, friendly family and the kindest hosts we've met in Sri Lanka.

Piyal was keen to share the many fruits growing around the beautiful property, and he told me about plans to make the guesthouse even better. You can see how much love he puts into hosting, and I can imagine the place becoming more beautiful over time. The rooms are lovely inside and out, and the service from Piyal and his family was impeccable. It's also close to the beach and local attractions. Thanks for a great stay, Piyal. Hope to see you soon!
