Cape Weligama - Relais and Chateaux

I loved the villas at cape weligama. They’re spacious, comfortable and thoughtfully laid out, with an open feel while still offering privacy. The resort has a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and incredible ocean views throughout the day. Its architecture blends traditional srilankan style with modern luxury, and the landscaping is beautiful and very well maintained. A lovely choice for a peaceful luxury getaway with a unique setting.

The Premier Villa was beyond what we expected, with plenty of space, a huge shower, an outdoor area and a semi-private pool. We stayed at Cape Weligama for our honeymoon in Dec 2025, and it was one of the nicest hotels we’ve visited anywhere. The property is lush, beautiful and well maintained, with two great pools. The newest beachfront club was perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and thanks to the lifeguard on duty for looking after us so well. Service was fast and efficient, with a dedicated team member always available. The food lived up to what you’d expect from world-class chefs. For New Year’s, there was a full celebration with a delicious five-course meal. We only needed to leave the resort for a surf lesson or an excursion. We have only good things to say and can’t wait to discover the other resplendent Ceylon properties. Thanks for making our honeymoon so memorable.

Everyone on staff was warm, smiling and ready to help, which really set this hotel apart. We had a wonderful stay and would still recommend the beautiful property. The suite was incredibly spacious, with a steam room, freestanding bath and lovely shower. The hotel is thoughtfully built across different levels, with a beach club, two pools, several restaurants and a well-equipped gym. The cliffside ocean views are dramatic, and breakfast was a daily highlight, especially the Sri Lankan choices. I did have a couple of reservations. I would have liked more Sri Lankan-inspired dishes on the dinner menu, given the fresh local ingredients available. Also, this may be cultural, but staff seemed to prioritize greeting and serving my male partner. Sometimes they didn’t acknowledge me or make eye contact, which felt disconcerting.

Cape Weligama is a stunning place to unwind, and we had a lovely stay. Our spacious, comfortable room had everything we needed and was easy to get to from the beach, pool and restaurant. The staff were warm, attentive and genuinely thoughtful throughout. We especially enjoyed the Sri Lankan breakfast, and the food was excellent. The spa massage was beautifully relaxing, and the gym was clean and well equipped. We’d happily come back.
