The young couple running this stylish homestay looked after us so well. We arrived hungry late in the evening, and they cooked us a wonderful meal. Breakfast was always tasty, and they gave us some free desserts and lent us an umbrella when it rained. The room had AC, earplugs, and a Dyson blade hairdryer that was handy for drying wet shirts. The bathroom was stylish, with no problems getting hot water, and the wifi was reasonably fast. The villa has a large garden with local peacocks, lizards and birds, in a quiet neighborhood that feels more local than touristy. There's a lovely little beach called Jungle Beach about two minutes away, though it's not for surfing. Turtle bay is a great restaurant close to the villa, so we didn't need to go into the centre for dinner after the beach. In Weligama, I also recommend High Tide for their grilled fish of the day. The area is great for beginners to surf. We took a two-hour lesson at Sababa surf school, just the two of us, and were surfing on our very first lesson.

Sainan's villa is in a lovely green, quiet area, and the hosts are friendly and always ready to help. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated, and guests can use the kitchen too. Breakfast was easily the best we had in Sri Lanka. There are five menus to choose from, and every one was delicious. We highly recommend the place and would definitely come back!

The bungalows are tucked into a garden in a secluded part of Weligama, about a 20-minute walk from the city. It really feels like being in the jungle, and wildlife visits the garden. The homemade food was delicious, and the service was incredibly friendly and helpful.

We booked based on the photos and reviews on Booking, but the conditions we found on arrival were completely different. The window had no glass, only a wooden shutter. We agreed with the guest to pay for one night rather than the three required by their Booking policy, then left to find somewhere else to sleep. The pictures speak for themselves.

We came for a short stay, but ended up cancelling our hotel in another city so we could spend longer with Sainan and Seiji. They’re lovely company, always ready to help, and we spent hours talking with them. Sainan, a charismatic young Chinese woman, and Seiji live in the house with a kitchen and living room, and they make delicious breakfasts. We rented a cozy house on the Villa Sainan grounds, surrounded by palms, flowers, fruit trees, spice plants, and wildlife. We spotted parrots and other colorful birds, plus the occasional peacock or monkey. There’s air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a shower and bathtub, yoga mats, scooter rental, and breakfast. Labrador Oliver is around too, and there’s an aloe vera plant for sunburn. We loved it and recommend it to everyone!
