Hotel Surasa

My family and I ended up cleaning the rooms ourselves, and the bedding they gave us wasn't clean. The sheets and pillowcases were stained. There was a cockroach in the fridge, plus frogs in the room and bathroom, including in some dressing table cupboards. Don't open any doors in those rooms. The owner was unprofessional and unpleasant, acting as if we'd done something wrong by choosing his hotel. He blamed us for the AC not working, though they hadn't checked it before giving us the room. Later, he and his son acted like we had broken it. They also charged us for eight fried rices when we'd ordered four, and added extra fees for our food. The owner is very cunning and seems only interested in money. Don't choose this place for a vacation or waste your money and time here. This is the worst hotel I've stayed in and our most terrible hotel experience. They don't know how to run this business. If there's nowhere else to go, sleeping on the road would be better than staying here.

We were unsure about booking because of the reviews, but I'm glad we took the chance. This really is a hidden gem for nature lovers. We first planned on a room, but after seeing the cabanas, we chose one instead. The cabanas are the rooms shown online, and for a little extra they felt like a much better deal. Mr. Fernando was a very hospitable host, and the staff were friendly and happy to help with all our requests. While we swam in the pool, we saw little frogs, stokes, and parrots, which added to the charm. We also decided to try dinner despite the reviews, and were glad we did. The portions were generous and the food was tasty. I'm sorry that others had a bad experience. Expectations should be reasonable, though. If you're after a 5-star city break, this won't meet them. If you love nature and don't mind sharing some space with it, you might want to visit.

The setting is beautiful, but the management is very poor. The rooms weren't cleaned, including the water heater and glasses, and there was a frog in the toilet. The AC was broken and water dripped all around it. There's not much choice for an overnight stay in Kuliyapitiya, but I'd avoid this place. Don't order food here either. The fried rice was the worst I've ever had, with more MSG and soup cubes than rice. They also charged a 10% service fee on the entire hotel bill, not just the meals.

The food was good and there was enough of it, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. The management was unpleasant, and the rooms, bathroom, and pool weren't cleaned. Money was stolen from my vault while it was hanging in the room. When I complained, they said protecting my money was my own responsibility, and there were no CCTV cameras covering the premises. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and it didn't feel like a safe or enjoyable place.
