Asanka made it easy to settle in, helping me find local restaurants and places to visit, arranging a scooter rental, and booking an Ayurvedic massage. At the chalets, Mahesh and his assistant Sajith prepared meals at the ocean viewing table. The food was excellent, though they ask for advance notice since they cook only for guests. I spent five nights in a mangrove-view chalet. It was simple and comfortable, with clean, modern touches, handcarved wooden details, and a peaceful feel. The forest setting brought occasional visits from squirrels, monitor lizards, and monkeys, while the ocean provided a soothing backdrop. The beach is usually almost empty, and you can walk for kilometres without seeing anyone. The waves and currents are too strong for swimming. Around 9pm, turtles sometimes come ashore to lay eggs; you may need to walk away from Tangalle’s lights to spot them. I’m glad I found this place. If I return to Sri Lanka, I’d choose it again to get away from work and city life and unwind.

The beach here is beautiful, but strong rip currents make it unsuitable for swimming. Rooms come with a fridge and mosquito nets. The host is good, the staff attentive, and breakfast is available.

We loved our time at Waves Beach Chalets and would have stayed longer if we’d had the time. Mahesh and his team were kind and ready to help, including arranging tuk-tuks for outings and serving coffee at 5am before our early safari. We were also able to leave our luggage and use the chalet after checkout. The location right by the beach is hard to beat. The rooms are clean, roomy, and well equipped with things like a mini-fridge and hairdryer. We especially liked the bright bathroom with its glass ceiling. Breakfast had lots of choices, both Sri Lankan and continental. We even spotted a family of monkeys in the garden. Hope we can come back!

We’ve been traveling around Sri Lanka for three weeks, and this was our fifth stay. It’s one of the best so far. Right on the beach and surrounded by nature, the setting is beautiful. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and everyone on staff was polite, friendly, and welcoming. The food was fantastic. We had the most delicious dinner we’ve ever tasted, even after thinking that about earlier dinners. We’d recommend staying here if you’re coming to Tangalle.

We were sad to leave because the staff were so kind and attentive. They arranged things for us and sorted out problems, and Mr Saliya set up a sunrise trip to Kalemitya Bird Sanctuary that we highly recommend. We also saw turtles on the beach, which was very special. The cabins have beautiful old-style decor, and the secluded setting is very quiet. You can walk for ages along the beach and hardly see anyone. Breakfast was delicious. We chose the Sri Lankan dishes, and the coffee was great. For swimming, there’s a safe rockpool about a 10-minute walk away, since the water nearby is otherwise very dangerous. We also took a tuk-tuk to Silent Beach, about 20 minutes away, which was a good safe place to swim. Mama’s Kitchen is only a 10-minute walk away, and we had some delicious meals there too.
