We’d visited from time to time over the last 2-3 years, and it had generally been fine. On a recent visit, though, the person who says he’s the manager offered us rooms with a strong smell and walls that looked rotten, especially 106 and 107. He’d offered me room 106 before, and I avoided it after that. This time he showed us 107 and another room across from it. Both had the same smell and walls, and 107 had dark brown curtains like 106. The other room was even worse, so we picked 107. After about 15 minutes inside, my girlfriend said she couldn’t stay because the curtain color under the lights hurt her eyes. She has migraines and is very sensitive to colors, so I asked the manager if we could switch rooms because of her condition. He refused, saying he’d already shown us both rooms before check-in and couldn’t do anything now. We decided to leave. As we were going, he said he could change the room for another Rs 1000. I’d already paid 3500 for just 3 hours, and the room he offered for extra money was worse. I saw a few other good rooms available, but he acted as though there weren’t any. This happened even though I’d reserved early. Be careful when booking and try to avoid the bad rooms. They do have really nice rooms, so ask for one of those. Keeping expectations for customer service low might help avoid disappointment.

The rooms are clean and come with hot water and AC. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. It’s a good place to stay by the beach, near Matara town.

The rooms were clean and comfortable during our one-night stay. The location in Matara fort is convenient.
