Katie was apparently an English backpacker who helped the host and his family after the 2004 tsunami. I don’t usually review places I stay, but after finding just one review for Katie's Hideaway, and it was one star, I wanted to share my experience. It’s a family-run guesthouse tucked down a few side streets, about a five-minute walk from the main beach. There are around 10 nice rooms, each with a private bathroom, fast WiFi, and air conditioning. The hosts were wonderfully friendly without getting in the way. They offered breakfast, lunch, or dinner for US$4 each. We tried breakfast, which was delicious: toast, an omelet, fresh fruit, and coffee. The price was very reasonable, about two to three times less than staying on the beach.
