Mirissa, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 It felt so homely here 🤍 The host welcomed us like family, with such a caring, motherly warmth ❤️ She even draped a Sri Lankan saree for me and my family 😍 We shared so much love and laughter and made beautiful memories. I’ll definitely come back just to stay here and see her again ✨

We spent two lovely weeks here. The family were nice, the garden was beautiful, and the separate rooms were great. It’s very quiet, with no barking dogs or peacocks, and close to both Food city supermarket and the beach. 🤗

The room was moldy and poorly cleaned, with sand left in the bathroom. There wasn’t even a rug to wipe my feet, so the bed kept getting sandy. Towels were changed only once a week. The room felt bare, with just a bed, wardrobe, and nightstand, and a bad smell came from the kitchen, even though the kitchen itself was clean and well-maintained. The beds were so short that I couldn’t fit, despite being 179 cm tall. The mosquito net was awful too, sticking to my head and feet and making it really uncomfortable.

I’m writing this at 3am from the room because I can’t sleep with the ceiling fan noise. We don’t feel safe or relaxed here. We booked a large room with AC and cooking facilities, but on arrival were given a different, badly maintained room for the same price. It had no AC, looked nothing like the photos online, and had a dirty mirror and lots of huge ants walking along the handle of the front gate. When I asked for an air-conditioned room, the host just said it wasn’t hot. With the weather and poor airflow, though, the room is burning hot. There was no welcome drink. She asked if we wanted a bottle of water, but we weren’t sure whether it was free. It really comes down to integrity: we should have been given the room we booked.
