Mermaid Inn

Mermaid Inn is a simple, affordable place in Mirissa with spacious rooms, a big comfortable bed, and a clean, well-kept washroom. It is a little away from the main beach area, but at around $17 without AC or $24 with AC, the value is hard to beat. If you're after a clean budget stay, this is a solid option.

Even though it's an easy walk to things, this quiet spot is tucked away from the road noise. The rooms were good, the beds were nice, and the bathroom was clean with good hot water. The people running the hotel were lovely and cleaned our room every day. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it!

We stayed at the Mermaid Inn homestay for two nights, December 27-29, 2024, and felt very at home with the welcoming family. Our clean, comfortable room had a large wardrobe, dressing table, sink, hot water kettle, mini fridge, tea and sugar packets, and drying racks indoors and outside. The bed was comfortable and had a mosquito net, and the air conditioning made for a good night's sleep. The hosts were generous with the shared kitchen, which was fully equipped with a gas stove, mixer grinder, cutlery, plates, refrigerator, and toaster. There’s a grocery store right across the road, so we could buy food and cook. Housekeeping was especially good: this was the first homestay in Sri Lanka where our room was cleaned daily without us asking. They also had secure parking inside the gated lawn, which we appreciated. There’s no restaurant at the homestay, but plenty of good places to eat are within a 10-minute walk, and the hosts gave us helpful local food recommendations. Mirissa Beach is also about a 10-minute walk away. We had rented a scooter, so getting around was easy. We were able to negotiate a much lower price in person than the online rate. The hosts’ attention to detail and all the amenities made for a relaxing stay, and we’d recommend the place. Try asking about the offline rate.

We spent a few days at Mermaid Inn around Christmas and had a lovely time. The family running the guesthouse were kind, and they kept both the rooms and shared areas clean each day. Our room was spacious, charming, and clean, and we liked having a shared kitchen, dining area, and garden. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, and you can walk straight to Mirissa beach. I'd definitely choose this place again for a stay in Mirissa.
