Sea Shine Beach Resort

The room at the front was very noisy because it was right by the road, and the atmosphere felt strange. The hosts weren't very friendly. Breakfast was included, but don't expect much: we missed it on day one because of a whale watching tour, and on day two they gave us one egg and some toast. When I asked for another egg, they charged extra. As we left, nobody even said goodbye, which felt quite rude.

After landing in the morning, I decided I wanted to stay on the beach. I looked at different places along Sri Lanka's western and southern coast and booked this one because it was well rated, on the beach, and discounted. I took a train towards Mirissa, and about an hour before I arrived, the lady called to say the room's bathroom was broken and asked me to cancel. I was shocked. I was already on my way, had hardly any battery left, no backup place, and was exhausted after almost 24 hours of travel. I told her I was coming and asked if she could recommend somewhere else, but she just told me to cancel and find another place. I offered to take the room without a bathroom and use a shared one, but she refused. I said I'd come to Mirissa specifically to stay at her place, and she said it wasn't her problem. An hour and a half later I reached Sea shine beach resort. There was a client there, but the lady wasn't. The place wasn't as nice as in the picture, and it wasn't on the main beach, just by a bit of sand where swimming wasn't recommended because it was too polluted, according to the client. I called the lady to say I was there and ask for help finding somewhere. She yelled at me and told me to leave, saying I could have paid if I wanted the room. Booking had no option to pay in advance; I was supposed to book and pay there, and she hadn't offered that on the phone. She didn't mention the broken bathroom again and admitted she'd given the room to someone else. I know exactly what happened: after I booked at a discounted price, two people came by and asked for the room. I believe she offered it to them at full price, and when they agreed, she tried to get rid of me.

Warning, don't stay here. The owner is a violent drunk. After I said I didn't want to stay, he chased me down the road. It's dangerous to stay here.

Just a bed, no breakfast.
