Twenty-Two Weligambay

The beachfront setting is beautiful, with ocean views even from standard rooms and beach access for all guests. That was the one real highlight. For the price, the rest of the stay was a letdown, and I'd go in with low expectations. Maintenance and service were poor. On arrival, the AC was leaking, soaking our clothes and making the room dirty. It took nearly an hour to fix. We needed to shower and leave by 4pm, so we asked to change rooms and were flatly refused. The GM distanced himself from the problem, saying he'd given responsibility to his staff. There was no apology or attempt to put things right. When we came back that evening, they moved us to another room, so one had been available, just not when we needed it. That room had no hot water for a long stretch, and its fan regulator was broken, leaving it either off or at full speed. Breakfast didn't feel worth the price: bread and bananas for two days, almost no vegetarian choices, and the non-veg options didn't seem much better. Getting a cab was a hassle too. Cab apps wouldn't enter because auto-rickshaw operators aggressively block the entrance, so we had to walk 500 metres to find a ride. When we raised it with the hotel, they shrugged and said they knew but couldn't do anything. Staff were courteous and approachable on the surface, but nobody seemed to take responsibility, from housekeeping up to the GM. We were repeatedly told it was peak season and the place was fully booked. Pay for the location if you must, but for this price it simply isn't worth it.

The team made our stay lovely. They were friendly, hospitable and accommodating. The hotel was incredibly clean, with daily cleaning, beds made again at night and chocolates left for us each day. There was no traffic noise or crowding, and nearby places to eat gave us alternatives to the hotel restaurant. The buffet breakfast was worth the extra cost. The pool looks out over the bay and opens straight onto a pristine beach that gets cleaned every morning. Wifi was good, though it cuts out when power goes out across Sri Lanka ;) It's a calm hidden gem between busy Weligama and Mirissa. I can't think of anything bad to say, and only wish our holiday had been longer. Thank you so much!

The room was spacious, with a beautiful view over the beach, and the mattress was medium-firm, just how we like it. We had some issues with the AC and ceiling fan, but they were fixed in a reasonable time. I highly recommend the curry at the restaurant. The hotel is in a quieter part of Weligama, about a 20-minute beach walk from the main area. The staff were fantastic. The Ocean Suite was modern, clean and really comfortable, with three lovely bedrooms, a roomy living room, dining area and kitchen. We especially loved the big open balcony and its stunning ocean view. The washrooms felt luxurious too, with plenty of space and separate shower, sink and toilet areas. Food was very good and nicely presented. With few guests, dinner was à la carte; breakfast was a lovely buffet, and lunch was delicious rice and curry made just the way we wanted. They also provided a cot for our baby, a thoughtful help for us as a family. We had a peaceful mini vacation at Twenty Two Weligambay. Everything from the staff to the atmosphere felt perfect. Highly recommend it for a relaxing, luxurious getaway in Weligama! 🌊💙
