Stoney Croft Cottage

The property was so dirty I didn’t feel like stepping inside without shoes, and it ruined our holiday. We booked a triple room and were told the third bed would be a bunk, but it hadn’t been cleaned. There was black dirt on it and the sheets hadn’t been changed. When I asked for another bed, they put a mattress on the floor and called that the extra bed. The bathrooms were filthy, with black dirt stuck around the cubicle edges, and there wasn’t proper hot water. All the towels were torn. Staff denied the problems even when they could see them, and showed no sense of hospitality. Nobody was there to welcome us at check-in. We knocked and waited before someone opened the door, and the first thing we saw was staff eating at the tables, which felt very unprofessional. The rooms were horrible and nothing like the photos.

The tea estate views were beautiful, and we loved taking long walks through the scenery. The cottage felt like a dream place, with a tasteful English-style interior, a comfortable common area and dining room, and plenty of privacy. It has five rooms, and we booked two. The gated society was quiet and felt very safe. It’s well connected and about 10-12 minutes from Nuwara Eliya main market area. The location is ideal for relaxing, and breakfast was great. Service from Mr. Shri, Lal, Avishk and the staff was very good. I’d absolutely recommend this lovely English cottage.

We loved having meals inside the cottage, even though there’s a separate restaurant, because it made the stay feel more homely. Raja, the cottage manager, was welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help. The deluxe room had a large balcony, was spacious and beautifully designed, and was well maintained. Its interior details made it cozy, and the misty views were breathtaking. The cottage itself has charming English-inspired architecture, and felt like a little piece of England in Nuwara Eliya. The outdoor heated jacuzzi was a highlight after a day out. Tell the staff early if you want to use it so they can get it ready. Moon Plains is nearby, and Nuwara Eliya town is about 20 minutes away. The Little England Cottages area was lovely, with flowers, greenery, and a cool misty climate. Stoney Croft Cottage made for a delightful getaway with comfort, luxury, and nature. We recommend it and hope to visit again.
