The location was stunning but quite isolated, reached by a long, narrow, winding road. The hotel itself was so lovely that we were happy to spend our time there. All the staff were kind and welcoming, and the property was beautifully maintained. It was a real highlight of our trip. We had a special dinner in the Railway car restaurant on our first night, with Thanushan as our fun and attentive conductor. Jayaprakash looked after our beautiful room and made towel elephants for us at evening turn down and again in the morning. Krishna made learning about tea plucking, tea history, the mini factory, and tea tasting both informative and fun. She also took so many great photos of us trying the hard work of tea plucking. Mohan led us on a several-hour nature walk, sharing interesting facts about the plants, tea growing, history, and much more.

The staff were warm and friendly, often stopping for a chat, and the hotel had a welcoming, personal feel. We also enjoyed the activities, including the tea factory tour, plucking tea, tasting sessions, and trips to nearby attractions like Horton Plains National Park. There’s a spa and gym as well. The hotel preserves the old tea factory’s architecture, and a small factory still operates inside, making tea exclusively for guests and staff. A garden with colorful flowers, berries, and creatively shaped grass structures was very well kept. The rooms have an old-fashioned look but are comfortable, well maintained, and have lovely mountain views. Meals were delicious, especially the Indian dishes. They’re usually served buffet style, with à la carte available during quieter times. The welcome reflected Tamil cultural traditions and made us feel at home. The setting among tea plantations, with mountain views, was peaceful and scenic. The drive in takes you along a narrow, somewhat under-maintained road for about 4-5 km, but the journey is worth it. The scenery is beautiful, and if you’re lucky you might spot jungle fowl, wild hares, buffalo, deer, squirrels, or many kinds of birds. A memorable way to experience Sri Lanka’s tea country.

The staff’s warmth and professionalism are what make this place memorable. Service was consistently great, and the food was amazing. Our fabulous room had great facilities and fantastic views across the surrounding landscape. The hotel sits among beautiful tea estates in an old tea factory that’s been thoughtfully converted. It keeps its factory heritage, giving the place a special feel.

Pathmanathan left a lovely surprise in our room, an elephant made from towels. It made us smile and captured the warm hospitality of the stay. We also learned how tea is made, from leaf to cup, using machines over 100 years old. We felt cared for and welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was beautiful, the service warm and attentive, and the surroundings breathtaking. A memorable, restorative stay that we’ll treasure.

After a hectic week of cultural sightseeing, we had a lovely, relaxing break and recharged. The place has old world charm, our room was a delight, and the spa was excellent. All the staff were superb, especially Kesawan in the Railway Carriage restaurant.
