Villa Spring Acre

The rooms were very clean, the view was amazing, and the caretaker was wonderful. His cooking was top-notch too. I hope to come back soon ❤️

Selvarag, the caretaker, was a wonderful, pleasant gentleman who helped us in many ways. He even brought us four extra blankets so we could try to stay warm. That was the one bright spot in a stay I regret. Every room had extensive damp and mould on the walls, curtains, and furnishings. The mattresses and pillows were badly stained, and the bedding was damp. The lampshades, chairs, sofa, and bean bags were old, filthy, stained, and smelled damp too. On arrival, we were given terms and conditions different from the ones advertised on the agent’s website and expected to sign them. There was also a long list of hidden daily charges that added up and had to be paid at checkout. At this 2,200-metre elevation, the property had no heating, and guests were expected to pay for warmth in the very cold mountain accommodation. WiFi was also charged daily and controlled by the owners. We had to contact the owner to order more GBites and confirm the fee, and we waited six hours or more for a response. There was no privacy. The property is in a holiday village with at least 80 other properties, and every room upstairs and downstairs was overlooked except for the mouldy shower room. It’s also quite a drive from the main Little England sightseeing areas. The microwave didn’t work, and the kitchen cupboards and worktops should be condemned. They looked at least 30 years old and were totally unhygienic. We ordered food from nearby restaurants instead. I’ve never had the misfortune of writing such a condemning review. I’m reassured that guests have raised all these points in reviews of the property over the last six years on the sites where it’s advertised, but the owners haven’t listened or responded to their concerns. Don’t make our mistake. Find cheaper, better accommodation in the main town.

The steep driveway was a drawback, but Spring acre has so much going for it. The sunrise views are simply amazing, the grounds are clean and well kept, and the food was fantastic. “Appu” is the best butler you could ask for. We’d give it 7 out of 5 stars.

The fireplace was our favourite spot for sitting around and singing together. We spent three relaxing, memorable days at Spring acre, with the bungalow’s facilities, cleanliness, and service all exceptional. It faces a tea estate, with beautiful views of the plantations and Mount Pedro. We’d definitely return on our next Nuwara Eliya vacation and recommend it to discerning travellers.
